Oregon: Lake and Falls
After being out of the country for over a year...I thought a road trip would help me get back 'home'. And so in July my friend Larry and I left the Bay Area for a week long loop thru northern California...around Crater Lake in Oregon...up the west side of Mount Hood...along the Columbia River...and down the east side of Oregon back to San Francisco.
We were not in a hurry and had just a vague outline of what we wanted to see. Along the way we visited the Lava Beds National Monument in CA. Crater Lake rim road still had lots of snow and only 2/3 was accessible by car. Water falls were more plentiful than I thought in western Oregon especially in the Silver Falls State Park and along the Columbia River. Eastern Oregon brought us thru Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and the town of Mitchell (where Larry was planning to view the eclipse from on August 21st). A quick stop at the Painted Hills in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument...and then home.
Relaxing...fun...educational...take a week and try it...cameras optional.
